While ASPERA-1 was to derive the status in European funding and research processing and to develop the ApP roadmap, and ASPERA-2 continued to broaden and deepen the European coordination, the third phase of ASPERA – a sustainable ApPEC structure including 3 functional centres in France, Germany and Italy – intends to: (a) Provide a discussion forum for the coordination of European ApP (b) Develop and update long term strategies (c) Participate in the European scientific strategy with organizations such as the European Strategy Session of CERN Council and ESFRI (d) Develop closer relations with organizations involved in ApP such as CERN, ESA and ESO, and (e) Express collective views on Astroparticle Physics in international fora.

Within the scope of ASPERA and ASPERA-2, favourable conditions have been provided for close collaboration of European funding agencies in the Astroparticle physics domain. The intention is to preserve the commonly defined processes and procedures in the new ApPEC structure and also to broaden the network and involve new agencies which are welcome to join. Even though a lot has been done during the past six years of ASPERA, as the ASPERA-2 coordinator Dr. Thomas Berghöfer stated: „A whole lot more is coming up depending on the results of some exciting upcoming years in Astroparticle Physics“.
